Newly restored ‘‘Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag’’ to premiere in Cannes

The newly restored Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag willpremier in the Cannes Film Festival this May 2013.
The restoration is made possible through the partnership of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Martin Scorcese’s World Cinema Foundation (WCF). The premiere has been confirmed by Thierry Fremaux, Director of Cannes, through WCF.
This is FDCP’s second restoration project following Manuel Conde’s Genghis Khan which premiered last year in the Venice Film Festival. The restoration is again done by L’Immagine Ritrovata in Italy, one of the leading film restoration laboratories in the world.
Maynila is considered one of Lino Brocka’s magnum opuses and is a canonical Filipino film. The restoration is also made possible through the cooperation of Mike de Leon, the copyright holder of the film
