‘Iska’ wins Best Screenplay at 2020 Asian Film Festival
December 14, 2020

The 2019 Cinemalaya film “Iska” continues to make waves abroad, winning another award, this time at this year’s Asian Film Festival.

The Cinemalaya congratulated the film’s production team for winning Best Screenplay at the prestigious event held in Barcelona.

“Theodore Boborol’s ISKA won Best Screenplay at the 7th Asian Film Festival – Barcelona’s Special Section program. Congratulations to Mary Rose Colindres, Direk Ted, and their team for this recognition,” Cinemalaya said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Earlier, actress Ruby Ruiz won international awards for Best Actress for her performance in the film, thrice: At this year’s 6th Herat International Women’s Festival in Afghanistan, the 15th Harlem International Festival in New York City, and 15th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

“Iska,” directed by Theodore Boborol, follows the story of a loving, impoverished grandmother of an autistic child who loses everything, turning into someone society reckons her to be.

The film also stars Soliman Cruz, Ricky Rivero, Jonic Magno, Jomari Angeles, RK Bagatsing, and Beauty Gonzalez, among others.

This year’s Asian Film Festival Barcelona has screened more than 100 feature films from 25 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The festival was held in Barcelona, Spain ran from Oct. 8 to Dec. 8.
