MAKATI, PHILIPPINES – The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in partnership with De La Salle University’s Social Research and Development Center (DLSU-SRDC), has released a comprehensive study on the viewing habits of Filipino audiences in Metro Manila. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the two institutions on March 5, 2024.

The research, titled “Habits and Preferences of Filipino Viewers of Local Films in Metro Manila,” addresses the persistent decline in  cinema attendance, which has been further impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, increased access to digital platforms, and other viewing alternatives.

Through surveys and focus group discussions, the study examined audience demographics, film preferences, and perceptions of both  local and foreign cinema. Key  results show the need for higher-quality content, more strategic and engaging marketing, greater support for  local productions in cinemas, increased industry backing, and strengthened academic  partnerships to foster youth participation in Philippine cinema.

This study aims to equip industry stakeholders with vital insights into Philippine media consumption patterns, enabling them to craft informed strategies that can improve the local cinema scene and enhance the overall movie-going experience.
