PeliKULAYa International LGBTQIA+ Film Festival Goes to Gateway Cinema

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, JUNE 23, 2022 — The PeliKULAYa International LGBTQIA+ Film Festival of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is holding free screenings of LGBTQIA+-themed feature and short films on June 23 and 25 in Gateway Cinema, Gateway Cinema 1, 4th Floor Gateway Mall, General Malvar Ave, Cubao, Quezon City. 

As part of this year’s Pride Month celebration, PeliKULAYa will screen the ten short films from the PeliKULAYa LGBTQIA+ Short Film Competition on June 23 (Thursday). On June 25 (Saturday), three feature films: Traslacion by Will Fredo, Boys Don’t Cry by Kimbery Peirce, and Gameboys The Movie by Ivan Andrew Payawal, will be screened for free. 

SoHo International Film Festival 2016 - Festival Prize for Best Documentary winner Traslacion is a documentary film directed by Will Fredo. Boys Don’t Cry, co-presented by the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, is an American biographical feature film starring Hillary Swank who won the Oscars in 2000 for Best Actress. Gameboys: The Movie is a Philippine boys’ love film starring Elijah Canlas and Kokoy De Santos. It is a sequel to the web series Gameboys produced by IdeaFirst Company.  

“We are in the last week of PeliKULAYa and so far, this month has been productive, insightful, and significant for the celebration of Pride Month. As we continuously push for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community through this month-long celebration, we would like to invite everyone to catch the last few days of screenings that the Agency has prepared. Audiences should bring and present their proof of vaccination before entering the cinema. Walk-ins will also be accommodated. 

Winners of the PeliKULAYa LGBTQIA+ Short Film Competition will be awarded at the PeliKULAYa closing ceremony and awards night on June 26 (Sunday).

Since its inception in 2021, PeliKULAYa aims to champion and empower members of the LGBTQIA+ community through a lineup of film screenings of local and international films, film talks, and special events.
